Rhythm Chanana, the girl who was spotted on the Delhi Metro wearing a DIY bralette and a skirt, has become the talk of the town. The pictures and videos of her attire went viral on social media, with many people wondering who she was and what inspired her bold fashion choice.
In an interview with India Today, Chanana shared her side of the story, saying that she wasn’t trying to copy anyone and that she wore what she wanted to wear. “It’s my freedom in what I want to wear. I am not doing this for a publicity stunt or to become famous. I don’t care what people have to say,” she said.
However, Chanana’s family members are unhappy with her lifestyle, and she has been facing regular threats from her neighbors. Despite the backlash, Chanana is not deterred and continues to wear what she wants.
After her pictures went viral, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a statement regarding the matter, reminding passengers of their no-videography policy inside the trains. When asked about it, Chanana pointed out that if DMRC had a problem with her attire, they should also have a problem with those who shot the video.
Chanana also spoke about her safety concerns while travelling in Delhi wearing bold clothes. “I haven’t faced any such issue. In the case of regular comments and eve-teasing, I have learned to ignore them,” she said.
Chanana’s story highlights the issue of society’s obsession with dictating what women should wear and how they should behave. Despite the backlash, Chanana’s story serves as an inspiration to many young women who are fighting against societal norms to live their lives on their own terms.
